Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Overwhelming Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by online forums.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
