The President Invites Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Shooting
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” Trump addressed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Mourners gathered over the weekend at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the media. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and halt granting visas to holders of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader the governor said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed a news show that she planned to meet with his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey told the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
