In a significant escalation, Ukrainian forces reportedly used long-range Storm Shadow missiles to strike a major Russian oil refinery. The attack was carried out Thursday, according to the country's military authorities.

Details of the Strike and Strategic Impact

The targeted facility, the Novoshakhtinsk oil plant, was reportedly hit, with "numerous explosions" recorded at the site. This marks not the first instance where Ukrainian forces has deployed these powerful British-supplied missiles against targets inside Russian soil.

Military spokespersons noted that the Novoshakhtinsk facility serves as one of the main suppliers of fuel products in southern Russia and is actively engaged in supplying the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

In a related development, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Thursday that he held productive talks with representatives of former US President Donald Trump, namely Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. These talks focused on potential pathways to bring the conflict to a close.

“We had a very productive conversation: many details, good ideas, that we discussed,” Zelenskyy wrote on a social media platform. “We explored some new ideas on how to bring real peace closer, and it concerns approaches, potential summits, and, certainly, the schedule.”

Meanwhile, in a domestic matter, a court in Russia has found guilty a activist and critic of Vladimir Putin on charges of justifying terrorism. Sergei Udaltsov, head of the Left Front movement, was given to six years in prison.
