Former Physician Accused of Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.
Details of the Grave Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.
List of Charges
The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:
- 15 counts of sexual assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
