Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Worries.
'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.
Gus Atkinson further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.
The pace bowler pulled up with his left leg immediately following a delivery that he bowled at the MCG.
The touring camp stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and would spend time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".
The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The English side has previously lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.
Matthew Fisher was called up to provide backup.
The seamer had a tough time during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.
He was left out for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.
Atkinson improved at the MCG, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, then making 28 as a batsman being one of only three England players to get into double digits.
Following a brief spell late on the first day, he came back on Saturday morning and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
However, at the end of the fifth over, he bowled a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt at his leg.
The English bowler was brought back for the Melbourne match following his omission of the third.
