One of the original creators behind the well-known ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who established the business alongside his partner, announced how he will independently develop this new product within a personal collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent development intensifies the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted how the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem for Support

The entrepreneur stated through social media that he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

The new product line is being developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand which was first established several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes and Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed that he plans to create other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after decades of involvement, mentioning concerns that its independence was compromised after corporate moves to curb its social activism.

Previously, Ben Cohen stated that "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to keep working within the organization to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise the social mission, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
