Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with results so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
