A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
